Role of Social Media during this pandemic [COVID-19]


We belong to the 21st century, it is said that it belongs to be the Digital Century, during the Spanish Influenza epidemic in 1918-1919 we did not have as much communication of information as we have today. Social media is the only connecting thread to the outside world during the coronavirus era. We are not only sharing information with social media but are also using a lot of social media platforms for personal and professional work.

In areas where the spread of this kind of epidemic is high, social media has a lot of contribution in spreading important information to those areas. These days’ people are becoming aware of the information received on their smartphones through Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, YouTube, etc. But the biggest problem is that which platform is to be trusted, we are fighting an epidemic as well as those who confuse people by spreading fake news. The business of fake news has increased even more during Covid-19.

The government and health workers are sending every information related to this epidemic through social media. Apart from this, many private companies have also raised awareness against Covid-19 through Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, YouTube, etc.

Our physical and mental well-being had some impact during the recent lockdown, due to lack of social and office routines, people shared awareness on social media platforms. Recently, superstar Shah Rukh Khan posted a song titled 'Sab Sahi Ho Jaage' from his Twitter handle, which sent positivity and hopes to everyone amid the lockdown. The song was sung by SRK himself.

According to reports, the number of minutes spent by readers on news sites has increased by 46% over the same period last year. And since people can't hang out with their friends in real life, they're connecting on almost every stage possible.
